Given her dedication to providing quality care to her patients, she has received numerous prestigious awards.  With funding from the CDC, she recently completed a comprehensive STD Curriculum for medical schools nationwide.

To learn more information about action steps for good sexual health, charts of recommended services for men and women, questions to ask health care providers, and sexual health resources. visit the NCSH Guide to Preventive Sexual Health Services.

Dr. Wimberly answers your sex questions below:

Do trichomoniasis and bacteria infections have the same symptoms in women?

Symptoms include vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, vaginal odor or it can be NO SYMPTOMS. Go HERE  for more info.

I’m an OB/GYN nurse. Can you mention that STD testing is as simple as a urine test now?
Yes, it is as simple as a urine test.  STD testing is not invasive anymore. Please get tested annually.

When your menstrual cycle is on and it hurts to urinate, what is going on?

You may have an infection. Please go to the doctor to get evaluated and tested.

I’m a 48-year-old female and I have discharge. The doctor told me all my tests were good but couldn’t give me a reason for the discharge. I haven’t had sex for over 5 years.

It may be bacterial vaginosis. Click HERE for more info.

Good morning, Dr. I’m a 31 yr old female who is pregnant. I was wondering if you knew what could cause pain in my vagina. I have never had or tested positive for any STD but 3 years ago, I was pregnant with my first child I was told it was a Bartholin cyst, but other GYN’s say Bartholin’s should not cause pain. The pain is in the same exact spot and it comes and goes.

I would suggest that you get another evaluation and make sure to ask specifically about the cyst as an option.

Is there a support group or hotline you can talk to when you don’t understand how you got HIV when your not bisexual or gay?

Yes go to the CDC website for more info.
